Harry Coumnas, a mission specialist, works to train pilots to fly shuttles and other mission specialists to handle the technical astronaut responsibilities. He rounds out the space station crew. Talking about his responsibilities, Harry maintains food and supplies, arranges crew activities and conducts experiments, and assists with payload operations.

He formerly worked as the research scientist in Antarctica region where he found out that species of marine can double their lifespan when water temperature increases by 1 or 2 degree Celsius. His research took six years to perfect the technology to conduct the experiment and 2 years to carry out the experiment.

As the former planetary protection officer, Harry Coumnas works to carefully control forward contamination of other worlds by terrestrial organisms and organic materials carried by spacecraft in order to guarantee the integrity of the search and study of extraterrestrial life, if it exists.

Being an American scientist, he is leading a space settlement project being conducted by the International Interplanetary Society. Along with that, he is also researching about life on Mars. He also assists in the construction of sterile spacecraft, the development of plans to protect Earth from returned extraterrestrial samples.
