As a self-described scientist, Harry Coumnas adheres to the guidelines established by the scientific community for doing research. He feels that he owes the greater community some external social obligations. He takes into account the fact that his job has a big impact on both the neighborhood where he lives and those much further away.
He is quite interested in finding out if life exists on Mars. He claims that of all the planets in the solar system, Mars is the most similar to Earth. It is therefore a good place to search for life. Nevertheless, it differs greatly from Earth. Mars behaves differently from Earth, which functions like a big magnet and repels the hazardous tiny particle of space radiation. Compared to Earth, it has a much less air surrounding it and no magnetic field. As a result, it receives more dangerous space radiation. Furthermore, the majority of the water is most likely not liquid due to the extreme temperature. Therefore, attempting to live on Mars would be quite difficult.
Even if there might not be life on Earth, Harry Coumnas adds that it would be fascinating to learn whether there was ever any life on Mars.
