The BCCI doesn’t not have any problem with the PCB hosting the Asia Cup 2020. But the Indian cricket board insists that the venue needs to be a neutral one as traveling to Pakistan is not an option at this point of time.
BCCI demands for neutral venue
An official from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said to IANS gave details about the BCCI’s stand on Pakistan hosting Asia Cup. The PCB’s hosting is not a problem to the board but they are not keen to send the Indian cricketer to Pakistan presently. If the venue is set to be Pakistan, India might not take part in the tournament.
“The question isn't about the PCB hosting the tournament. It is about the venue and as things stand now, it is quite clear that we would need a neutral venue. There is no way that an Indian team can visit Pakistan to even participate in a multi-nation event like the Asia Cup. If the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is ok with an Asia Cup minus India then it is a different ball game. But if India is to participate in the Asia Cup, then the venue cannot be Pakistan.”
When Indians faced similar issues
Pakistan players faced visa issues during 2018 Asia Cup and they could not come to India. This was one of the reasons back then why the BCCI had to host the in the UAE. Now the BCCI wants the Pakistan Cricket Board act similarly which would resolve all kind of doubtfulness. “A neutral venue is always an option. BCCI did it in 2018,” the official suggested.
After a decade cricketer returned to Pakistan and Sri Lanka went there to play. Sri Lankans played a full series in Pakistan and now Bangladesh is busy in Pakistan tour. They already played three T20Is and now would feature in a Test from February 7 to 11 followed by one-off ODI before playing the second Test from April 5 to 9.
