New York City - 11/5/2020: With unemployment numbers on the rise, more NYC residents than ever are open to a career change if it guarantees a stable job. One such career option that has both security and a stable pension plan is becoming a firefighter in the New York City Fire Department.

With a starting salary of $45,000, many locals are hoping to try their luck as an NYC firefighter. However, to qualify for an interview with the NYC Fire Department, candidates need to first appear for a firefighter exam.

To help candidates achieve high scores, NYC based preparatory institute, Civil Service Success, is offering classes to help test takers better engage with the material and format of the examination. The institute offers three classes in which they provide candidates with testing formats and course material to cover everything that has appeared in previous firefighter examinations. Additionally, the instructors offer students examination workshops so they can attempt tests in a similar environment as during test day.

When asked about their exam preparation strategies, an instructor at Civil Service Success said, "We aim to provide students with the right material for their examination. We don’t rely on just previous exams; we also tap into industry knowledge to send them to their exams thinking as a firefighter would. We try to keep our classes short yet packed with information so we only cover what’s necessary. Everyone has busy schedules and learning what’s important is more valuable than learning everything under the sun.”

Once candidates have scored high test results, the Fire Department shortlists and directs them to the second round of test-taking, which consists of the physical examination.
