Bedford is one of the most beautiful towns in South England, and its landscape is very inviting. Its attractions are more accessible if you hire a car that can take you throughout the entire surroundings. But the first thing that comes to mind when you say Bedford is its connection to Bedford Vehicles, a subsidiary of General Motors, a big truck manufacturer. So while you might be around Bedford you cannot miss the pleasure of a lorry hire and enjoy the Great Ouse River view from the seat of an English lorry. Not far enough there is Langford, also associated with the truck manufacture, and that makes the Bedfordshire County the right place to hire a lorry and enjoy the wonderful views.

Lorries and trucks are very big vehicles which can help transport heavy weight products. So whether people need to carry out furniture when they are moving out, or to transport something extremely big in any purpose, hiring a truck is a perfect solution. General Motors has managed to place on the market a great number of trucks, and the community is very proud to be associated with the lorry production.

In Langford there is a “River Festival” which attracts more than 250000 guests every year, and it involves sports, funfairs, live music and a journey along the river of monster trucks, police cars, fire engines and other emergency vehicles. It’s a good opportunity for visitors to admire the big vehicles and later to hire a lorry for their own journey across the river. The residents of the town are waiting impatiently for this event because it’s a good moment to brag about the history of Bedfordshire.

The lorry hire agencies in Bedford are very solicited since people come often and ask for a lorry to hire on different purposes. The prices are very accessible and that’s another plus. A great number of truck models were created here, at Bedfordshire, and its contribution to the break out on the UK and British Empire market was due to the Overhead Valve and the six cylinder Chevrolet engine. Furthermore, the importance of the vehicles produced at Bedford was significant in WWII.

The prototype of the Bedford MWD, 4x2 General Service Truck appeared in 1937 and throughout the War years provided the backbone of the British army's transportation. It was based on a commercial 2-tonnes truck with a modified chassis to increase the ground clearance. The British War Office ordered 2,000 trucks from Bedford Vehicles (subsidiary of Vauxhall Motors, which is a subsidiary of American firm General Motors) in August 1939, the early deliveries being constructed specifically to carry the 2-pound anti-tank gun.

Bedford produced over 200,000 Bedford 15-cwt trucks during the war. Simple to maintain and robust, it was used by every arm of the service as a general cargo and personnel carrier (including wide usage in the North Africa campaign as the standard transport for the motorised infantry in the armored brigades), and the type remained in service with the British army until the late 1950s. It was also the vehicle on which thousands of military drivers would learn to drive.

Lorry hire Bedford and Lorry hire Langford companies have a lot of truck models available for entertainment too. There are people who like to hire a Monster truck just to experience driving on the seat of an enormous vehicle. Children too can drive a 4X4 car on the off roads of Bedfordshire. So if you know the history of lorries in Bedfordshire and love these oversized vehicle be sure to visit the County and enjoy a ride.
