There are quite a few themes for blogs that are out there, both free and paid-for. So how do you know which one is the perfect theme to choose for your own blog? The thing is that you first need to know what theme is best suited for you and your blog. There is a misconception that paid-for themes are always better than the free ones, but this is not always true as free themes have been known to look and even work better than some of the paid-for ones. Should you go for a free or a premium Tumblr theme?

The first feature that you should look for when choosing a theme for your blog is the default design that it comes with. As you are allowed to edit a theme to make it suit the needs of your blog, you should be at least partially satisfied with its original design. This also applies to the theme's layout and its functionality. You can decide to add widgets in order to change the way in which your theme gets posts to be displayed, but this can only be done up to a certain point. This means that you should choose a theme that meets all your needs.

Another thing that you should be aware of when choosing a theme for your blog is whether or not the Tumblr theme will be suitable to work with upgraded versions of the platform that hosts your blog. There are themes that come with best visual and technical elements for your blog. The thing is that sometimes, they are just not compatible with the upgraded versions of the platform where your blog is hosted. If you choose a theme that was created to run on an earlier version of the platform, this can come with some consequences. You need to choose a theme that is also widget and plug-ins compatible. There are lots of widgets and plug-ins available which improve the way your theme looks and operates.

A vast amount of free and premium Tumblr themes are easy to access by doing a search in Google or other popular search engines. The free Tumblr themes are usually at the top of the results list. However, you can benefit from paid ones as well. You should know that there is also a wide range of great templates and themes that have been created and made available for no price at all. Some free themes will require of you the blog owner, to give recognition to the author in the footer of your blog. That's a small fee to pay compared to the great features you'll be receiving.

If you decided to go for a free Tumblr theme, there's a fairly good chance that the final result was not what you expected it to be. Want to change it? No problem! First you must determine the color that you want. Find it on your website, on another page, in a photo. Now, using a cool free tool you can restyle the sheet of your blog.
