When you are in charge of arranging the house for the winter holidays with Christmas lights, your goal is to obtain a good looking house, possibly to stand out in your neighborhood. But the desire to personalize and highlight your home can make you fall into the trap of excessive decoration with string lights. Here's how you can avoid this.

The first rule is to keep proportions. If you live in a large house, you can decorate it with dozens of Christmas lights, but they would not look so good if you lived in an apartment. Think of your home as a coloring book for children. If you colored the gaps between the images, it would not make any sense. The second rule is “less is more”. Try to keep the decor as simple and elegant as possible, by avoiding putting different types of string lights next to each other. Think of these lights as jewels. The simpler they are, the better the effect is!

The third rule is to choose a color scheme. You do not need to use all the colors of the rainbow in order to give your house a festive look. Multicolored string lights are interesting, but the ones with one color or two colors maximum are the most elegant and outstanding. You can choose to decorate your home or your Christmas tree with one color or you can use two complementary colors. Give up on “disco” lights! It is recommended to opt for lights that are less strenuous. Do not try to recreate in your home the atmosphere from a "disco" because it will look kitschy.

Do not decorate the whole yard. There is no need to decorate every piece of your yard with lights and Christmas decorations. Also, avoid decorating trees incompletely, meaning just half of their branches, or using various inflatable Santa figurines in the yard. Remember, your goal is an elegant arrangement, not a kitschy one!

People usually have a lot of decorations stored in the attic or in the basement and they use to take them out when the holiday season begins, they decorate their house with them and then, when the season has passed, they put them back until the next year. And this happens year after year. But it becomes very boring to see the same scenery every year. So they should try to give each Christmas a fresh look, with the help of new Christmas lights, decorations and ideas. This way every Christmas will be unique and your memories will last for a lifetime! What could be more beautiful than to have distinct decorations for every year?
