Divorce Statistics Heading For A Downward Trend

John Grasso Shares The Latest Trends In Divorce Statistics

The global pandemic caused havoc on a global scale. It instilled fear and tension in people’s lives, careers and relationships. It also meant couples that were used to spending numerous hours apart had to stay cooped up in the same home, in each other’s presence and this resulted in a severe tension build-up. The changed global situation caused an increase in physical abuse, domestic violence, financial strain, and even boredom. The entire shift in the situation also resulted in several extramarital affairs coming to the surface. All these factors contributed to a divorce rate that started to take an upward spiral. This all now seems to be changing again.

“As a leading legal practice in Rhode Island, our team of expert divorce lawyers had their hands full with a rapid increase in the number of divorces filed from our office. It was clear that the entire world was in a state of severe stress and uncertainty and unfortunately, numerous marriages just couldn’t last through this severe stress,” says Blake Nolan, media consultant to John Grasso.

Now, however, the trend is for this rate to go into a downward spiral and there is a significant decrease in the number of new divorce cases. This is however also a reflection of what is happening in society. Many more people are now working from home, have become used to the changes in the way the world operates and, in some cases, simply don’t have the funds to get divorced or to split the expenses of one household into two.

Nolan also states that what recent surveys reveal is that not all couples experienced the pandemic in the same way. While some couples felt severe stress and as if the pandemic crippled them with the fear of having no escape, numerous couples firmly believe that the pandemic brought them closer to each other and that they now have a stronger bond than before.

What the future holds for these couples we will still have to see but judging on the numbers that now come in, the trend is to remain together a little longer, either due to strengthened bonds or limited funds. Nolan said that currently, they urge couples who feel unsure on how to proceed to see if they can hold it out slightly longer until the warmer summer months are here, and more people get vaccinated. This is when freedom of movement will continue, and life might just become normal again.
