Child Molestation Is A Heinous Crime

But what if you are falsely accused? There are too many occasions when our judicial system fails the accused and sentence, innocent people, to prison.

In the fall of 2020, it made the headlines when 37-year-old David Devlin was sentenced to 35 years in prison, while he must serve 12 years before probation for the molestation of a minor. The girl whom he was accused of molesting was 14 years old and it took place between 2016 and 2019.

While child molestation remains a terrible crime, destroying the lives not only of the victim but also those closest to him or her, it is sadly also the case that molestation is one of the crimes for which the public will judge the accused as guilty simply on mere allegations and without any proof. It is a situation that puts the accused in a very vulnerable position for false claims that might be proven in court, but once the community you live in gets a mere whiff of the allegations against you, they easily just ostracize you and finds you guilty long before the court does so. But what about if you are innocent? Who will ever believe you?

“While we always take any allegations of child molestation serious, there have been too many times in the past that fathers, brothers, boyfriends of any young man for that matter had to suffer through false allegations and what it does to their lives. There are too many occasions when our judicial system fails the accused and sentence, innocent people, to prison. There are too many occasions when justice did not prevail. Therefore, our team is always hard at work, searching for evidence, bringing the facts to the court to be able to present innocence when it is the case. The worst part about false allegations is that it doesn’t only allow the true perpetrator to get away with his crime, but it also destroys the lives of those who are falsely accused, the family’s lives and the future of them all,” says Blake Nolan, media consultant to the leading legal firm in Rhode Island, John Grasso.

Accusing someone falsely of such a crime might be easy and it might appear to be the right steps to take when you are in a desperate position, or when you want to cover your tracks or even in some cases, we’ve had to deal with sheer revenge due to love rejected. Still, it remains a crime to make yourself guilty of these kinds of allegations. Child molestation or any other kind of sexual crime is always tough to deal with as in the case when it did happen, the perpetrator must be punished, yet the evidence should be proving the allegation without any doubt.
