John Grasso Team Explain What SB 2 Means in Domestic violence

The Rhode Island domestic violence law stipulates that an arrest for this crime can be made based on merely an accusation. Coupled with the fact that under current legislation, police officers don’t get decertified if their behavior is unlawful, only increases the risk of false allegations leading to arrests and destruction of an innocent person’s life. When you are facing charges of domestic violence, you might lose your job, your family gets ripped apart, you might lose contact with your children and the ripple effect only continues to widen. It is why you need an expert in domestic violence cases by your side. This would be someone from the team of reputable domestic violence lawyers in Rhode Island working at John Grasso.

“As domestic violence is one of our niche fields, we always make sure that we remain at the edge with any changes or even possible changes to legislation. Our goal is to always ensure that justice prevails and to ensure that this remains the situation in Rhode Island, it is necessary to have certain measures in place. We believe that SB 2 would be such a measure,” says John Grasso.

He then continues by stating that there are only four states where police officers can be guilty of a certain charge and then merely apply at another police station and continue their lives as per normal. These states are Hawaii, California, Rhode Island, and New Jersey. Here the profession of being a police officer is not on the list of professionals and that is what SB 2 would rectify as soon as that comes into place. It requires that being a police officer should legally be considered as a professional position and that when these officers break the law, that they get decertified. This would minimize false arrests of people for domestic violence charges. Now it is just too easy to ruin someone’s life with such a case.

The team at John Grasso supports this Senate Bill as they believe that whenever the local citizens of the state see red and blue lights in their rearview mirror, they must be able to have confidence in the authorities and this is the kind of confidence that will only become the norm when police officers must face accountability for their actions. “Our mission is to give justice the fair chance it deserves to remain the backbone of our country, but it is not possible to do so when peacemakers are not facing accountability too,” Grassoconcluded.
