6 Tips For Employee Relocation

Posted June 7, 2018 by JoeTaylor1

Employees who get international assignments often feel daunted on moving to a different location for work.

Employers should ensure that the employee has a smooth relocation so that working overseas is not a problem for them and they enjoy it. It is useful for employees to work in global locations and develop an international network. Following are some tips for employee relocation.

Scoping

Scoping helps in knowing a foreign location although a relocation consultant does give services for finding a house, settling, and area orientation in the new place. For scoping, you need to send the employee with their spouse to the new location for seven days on a paid trip. It will help an employee in finding jobs for their spouse and kids. Give some websites and overseas employee’s contacts to them for scoping.

Set Clear Expectations

Set clear expectations with your employees by letting them know about the new responsibilities, salary, work hours, and movement process.

Cross Culture Training

Giving cross culture training to employees helps in overcoming the culture shock they might face in an overseas location. It helps in adjusting to a new culture.

Arrival Orientation

Arrival orientation is necessary during the initial stages when the employees move to a new location during the first few weeks. Let the employee have a mentor in the foreign location. Give them team activities and foreign language training. Take the services of a relocation consultant.

Help Employee Spouses Develop Social Network

If your employee’s spouse is not allowed a work permit immediately, help them to develop a social network.

Be In Touch With Your Employee

Maintain a constant connection and communication with the employee and be updated on the assignments that they do. Let them have a flexible work schedule for better results and improved productivity.
