Almost all the products and services are required to be certified by certain quality authorities to ensure authenticity and gain consumer confidence such as FCC certification. Wireless transceivers are an essential part of modern communication systems and therefore, they need to under wireless testing too before they can be legally sold in the market.

The communications regulations of Interstate Commerce Commission (ICC) were taken over taken by Federal Communications Commission (FCC). FCC is an independent body and most of its commissioners are appointed by the President to assess different aspects of quality for various products, including broadband, media and spectrum. The inclusion of communication media has led to the mandate of wireless testing for wireless products to acquire FCC certification.

FCC certification for various products is the sign of quality assurance for the people of these states and regions. Apart from the US, other counties of North America also receive assistance from the FCC in their quality assurance techniques and wireless testing requirements.

There are three different techniques of authorising industrial equipments, of which FCC certification is one. Wireless communication devices, terminals and related products have to undergo wireless testing to get authorised for marketing in the specified areas. The test and certification are means of ensuring people’s safety from products that emit some or the other form of energy as a consequence of its activity.

The permissibility of the emission of waves from the wireless equipments is assessed through wireless testing. If the parameters stated by the FCC are met and complied by the manufacturer, only then the FCC certification is provided to the product. The test results and other necessary documentation are required to be available when requested. The certification application process is completed with the mandatory declaration of compliance by the manufacturer. There are other aspects which also need to be passed before the license is passed.

Every product which is subject to wireless testing under the directives of FCC has to be certified irrespective of its licence status. Certain products may not be licensed but the FCC certification provides the assurance of correct spectrum usage of those products too. Since the FCC certification requires detailed test results, schematic diagrams, label information, parts list, users manuals, tune-up information, etc. it can be relied upon as an effective way of establishing the products conformity with its purpose of development.

Attaining an FCC certification through wireless testing is quite simple as there are several testing agencies and organisation that perform the test and duly present the data for certification. Most of these wireless testing companies also include Zigbee testing, RFID, part 15C intentional radiators, ETSI standards, Bluetooth testing, 802.11 testing, 3G devices, spectrum, etc. along with other tests and examinations.

Some wireless testing standards that can be easily found with most testing agencies include R & TTE directive for Europe, EN 301 489 for radio equipments, EN 300 220 and 086 for short range devices and landline services, and many more types of services.
