Highly fortunate to survive the deadly Hurricane Sandy, Andrew Lesnak could still recall its horrific memories. Be it the harrowing sounds of the windows or people screaming for help, it still manages to shatter him from inside. Once before the hurricane hit, he was the owner of a cherished waterfront home and operated a successful financial planning business. Little did he know that his life was going to change forever after the hurricane.
During many years of being unsettled, Andrew realized that he needed to do something mental therapeutic and useful for the other victims. Thereafter, he started volunteering in various nonprofit organizations and became a counselor in the mental health field. He embraced the therapy for -himself, and utilized his positive experiences, to help the victims. He helped them to rebuild their lives without being damaged financially, mentally, and emotionally. He also created a “Community Outreach Program, to assist the victims of catastrophic events, like what he had experienced. He also assisted the victims find affordable housing and get training to enhance their earning capabilities. He served as the counselor for those who continue to suffer from anxieties, depression, and other traumatic disorder due to Sandy.
Being the victim of the hurricane, Andrew Lesnak could relate with those struggling with addiction and depression. He could empathize with their sense of hopelessness and lost sense of how to rebuild their lives. He decided to volunteer his time to counseling these suffering victims through Hope Sheds Light.
Aimed at breaking the chains of addiction, Hope Sheds Light works towards educating families on the disease by creating awareness, providing resources, and instilling hope in order to support a healthier community. Andrew gives the gift of his time to help those who are struggling with addiction and depression in an attempt to make necessary steps towards his own recovery.
