In June 2017, holiday visitors increased by 11% and stayed a total of 85.8 million nights, a 5% increase from the previous year. New South Wales remains the top destination for international visitors with a total of 4,008 tourists in June 2017. Victoria lands second place with 2,761 visitors, and Queensland comes third with 2,619. There was a significant rise in the numbers of backpacking tourists in the same month. From 612 backpackers the previous year, June 2017 had 33 more backpacking travellers who spent a combined amount of 46,924 nights in Australia.
