Your purchasing a home in N.J. and your attorney requests a tank sweep. But what type of tank sweep do you purchase. Not all oil tank sweeps are created equal. Some tank sweeps are purchased using a metal detector others are used using Ground Penetrating Radar. Ground Penetrating radar can see down to a depth of 15 feet and though concrete and asphalt. Some oil tank sweeps only do around the house perimeter of 10;' feet. Environmental Systems uses Ground Penetrating Radar and does entire property. Many people forget that some homeowners had separate oil tanks for there garages and pool heaters in addition to gasoline tanks for their cars which may be located 20 or 40 feet from the house. Typically, a underground heating oil tank has 2 lines running from the tank to furnace. These lines are buried under concrete or within the concrete floor. Environmental Systems recommends scanning the basement floor with GPR and then performing soil sampling through the concrete floor to determine that the lines have leaked or not. In some cases the supply lines have leaked when the oil tank did not, costing the property owner over $20,000 to remediate the leaking lines in the basement. Environmental Systems is a full service environmental tank removal and remediation company serving all of New Jersey.
