NEW YORK — As a public service announcement and in response to yet another data breach this week we are all reminded security is not an option. Millions of Latin Americans and large corporations like Facebook, Mercado Libre, Kavak.com, Hyundai, Kia, General Motors, Volkswagen, Nissan, Mercedes Benz, BMW, Audi, and many more now have the potential to be the next victims from hackers.

This week's data breach at Maxipublica.com, a software-services company that operates a popular auto dealer app, affects about 1.5 million people and 2,400 businesses.

The company issued a statement on the breach Monday, revealing that due to an internal mistake, their system sent all of their users and their user's clients, an email with a link to their complete database (shown below).

In addition, it was also reported that through FB the same database link, was shared across multiple accounts such as Kavak's (as seen in the following image):

The ramifications of a data leak are many, but primarily consist of financial loss, reputational damage, operational disruptions, and legal ramifications (for all the involved and affected parties).

To avoid further damages, all affected parties must be made aware, otherwise they could very well just be the next victim of phishing or many more other types of attacks.
