Daytona Beach is often called "The World's Most Famous Beach". And for anyone who has visited or lived there, the majority would agree wholeheartedly.

But what makes this area so special?

Daytona Beach rose to prominence in social circles many years ago as a result of legalized racing on the white sand. Although racing has since moved to the nearby Daytona International Speedway, many portions of the beach are still open to vehicles; a policy that is unheard of on other Florida beaches.

Although a developed area, Daytona Beach teems with wildlife and wondrous nature. There is a wide variety of birds including pelicans, gulls, and even eagles. One of the most widely watched and heavily protected animals is the sea turtles which set up nests right on the beach. Fish come in every imaginable type including red snapper, sharks, and backwater varieties such as catfish. And of course everyone's favorite the dolphins often swim right up to the shoreline.

Not surprisingly, fishing is one of the most popular outdoor activities in the area. Visitors flock to try their hand at deep-sea fishing, many for the first time in their lives. There are a plethora of charter captains eager to help guest experience the thrill of landing a huge fish. Prices average around $200 for an all day trip.

Other water activities include surfing, boating, parasailing and more. The waves in Daytona rarely get above 3-5 feet so it is perfect for the novice or beginner to grab a board and get started.

However, without a doubt the biggest attraction in Daytona is the beach itself. People from all over the world descend upon the countless condominiums and hotels daily just for a chance to relax in a chair on the beach, talk a long walk, bike-ride, or swim in the clear blue water. At night, they can open their window or sit on the deck and listen to the soothing sounds of the ocean waves crashing gently onto the sand.

However, if the beach isn't a big enough attraction, the town and surrounding area has plenty to see. The Speedway gives tours and allows visitors to actually take a drive on the track. Less than 50 miles away is Orlando, the tourist capital of the world and home to the Disney Parks, SeaWorld and more. To the north is St. Augustine, the country's oldest city. To the south is the amazing Kennedy Space Center which also gives daily tours.
