Endometriosis which has been associated with infertility is a chronic disease that can affect women during their reproductive years. It is characterized by ectopic endometrial tissue that bleeds into the peritoneal cavity and triggers local inflammation, pseudocyst ("endometrioma") formation, smooth-cell hyperplasia and peritoneal adhesion formation. Common sites include the ovaries, uterosacral ligaments, rectovaginal septum and peritoneum. Patients typically experience recurrent bouts of severe pelvic pain that radiate to the rectum or perineal area; the pain is often more severe and obvious during sexual intercourse.

Endometriosis is common in women with infertility but its management is controversial and varied. Endometriosis impairs fertility by causing a local inflammatory state, inducing progesterone resistance, impairing oocyte release and reducing sperm and embryo transport. Medical treatments have a limited role, whereas surgical and assisted reproductive treatments improve pregnancy rates. The role of surgery for deep infiltrative endometriosis and repeat surgery requires further evaluation and there is insufficient evidence for the use of anti-adhesives to improve fertility.
The goals of treatment are to prevent the pain and progression of endometriosis either through suppressive hormonal therapy or through surgical removal of ectopic foci. Some women with infertility and endometriosis may benefit from a combination of assisted reproduction and surgery. While, many studies support the evidence that surgical removal of endometriomas is deleterious to ovarian reserve and function. There is now convincing evidence that surgery for removal of endometriomas does not offer any additional benefits in terms of fertility outcomes. Other concerns after surgery are a higher risk of premature ovarian failure, earlier age at menopause, and higher cancellation rates in IVF cycles as well as the inherent risks of an invasive procedure.

Besides the western treatments, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) can offer us a better choice to cure this disease. TCM is a healing system of Eastern medicine developed in China more than 2,000 years ago, incorporating therapies that are in some cases millennia older. One of its guiding principles is to "dispel evil and support the good." And in the concept of TCM, endometriosis causes are: weakness of Yin, gather of heat(fire) at lower abdomen, bad blood circulation and stasis around the uterine. According to these factors, doctors can compose remedy for treating them. By promoting blood circulation, clearing away heat and dampness, dissolving stasis, and dissipate hard lumps, endometrial lesion can be destroyed and absorbed, and then expelled outside the body. Endometriosis herbal treatment - Fuyan Pill is a patented herbal remedy to treat endometriosis which has been used for more than 10 years, and is proved can cure endometriosis within three to four courses. Its composition mainly are Bupleurum falcatum, poria cocos, radices scutellariae, Gardenia, Atractylodes ovata, Dioscorea Batatas, Atractylodes sinensis, Talcum, Angelica, semen persicae, saffron, liquorice.
As modern medical science is much more developed than Traditional Chinese Medicine, endometriosis herbal treatment is always the choice for those who have the disease recurred after surgery. However, for those who do not want to risk for the side effects of hormonal medication and undergo surgery, they are more willing to choose herbal remedy to treat endometriosis.
