Centennial College's Advanced Television and Film - Script to Screen program is unique among the other post-graduate film and television programs currently available in the GTA. It is designed for actors, writers, directors, producers, editors and other film and television craftspeople who are seeking a comprehensive understanding of what goes into developing and producing quality feature films and TV shows.
The script writing program goes well beyond just putting together a script, as students are given the opportunity to deconstruct classic films, television shows and scripts of all genres. Split into two semesters, the first semester is devoted to teaching students how to create, pitch, develop, outline, draft and polish four production-ready film scripts that are 10 minutes or less. Once students have a grasp on the basics, the second semester allows them the opportunity to take their scripts and develop them into shows in which they perform in and shoot. The entire program focuses on dramatic filmmaking, including comedy and all the other genres but excluding documentary filmmaking.
What takes this offering a step further than other script writing Toronto-based programs is its incorporation of actors. The feature benefits students, as they are able to tailor scripts to an actor's specific talents. Coupled with the time and effort devoted to script development in the first semester, this results in higher quality student films.
