This press release focuses on the skilled and knowledgeable graduates produced by the Food and Nutrition Management program at Centennial College.

The career opportunities in the field of healthcare are endless. Within that field, there is a continuous need for qualified Canadian Society of Nutrition Management (CSNM) food service managers in Ontario long-term care facilities or other food or nutrition-related associations. Accredited by the CSNM, Centennial College's Food and Nutrition Management graduates are equipped with the knowledge of nutrition and food service, business skills and human relations skills, and are prepared to work in the nutrition department of a long-term care facility, a hospital or other food service industry.

The Food and Nutrition Management program at Centennial College provides a supportive learning environment for students to gain food service and nutrition knowledge combined with business and human relations skills to prepare them for challenging careers in the food service industry, and professional competence in keeping with the codes of ethics and competencies of the CSNM. Centennial's graduates are eligible for membership in the CSNM and the Ontario Society of Nutrition Management.

This is the longest established two-year post-secondary food service program in the Greater Toronto Area. Using Centennial's Hospitality Management Centre, students learn the practical aspects of quantity food preparation and service and conduct experiments to learn the physical properties of food during the first part of the program. Centennial's Food and Nutrition Management graduates have demonstrated the ability to participate in the provision of nutritional care in a variety of settings including institutional and community environments. They are capable to participate in master menu planning as well as in procurement of goods and services.

The final seven weeks of the program consist of supervised work experience in a healthcare facility, which has given students the capability to participate in the provision of nutritional care in a variety of settings including institutional and community environments. They also see first-hand what it like to supervise personnel through the use of appropriate management, training, and motivational techniques, as well as operational procedures to meet established standards for safety and sanitation according to established policy, procedures, and regulations. Graduates of Centennial's Food and Nutrition Management program have found positions such as: food and nutrition manager, food service coordinator, dietary manager, quality control technician and diet technician.
