Killeen, TX/ Press Release: The high school dropout rates in the U.S. are very high as compared to the other industrialized nations. To tackle this issue, Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Texas organizes various programs. These not only boost the practical skills of the members, but also promote self-learning attitude.

Educational Activities Offered:

Project Learn – The program aims at enhancing the skills and knowledge of the kids which they learn at the school. The tutoring staff makes use of high yield activities such as reading and writing, homework help, discussion with a knowledgeable person, etc.

Goals For Graduation – This introduces an academic goal setting to the kids aged 6-15 years by linking their future aspirations to the conclusive work of today. These goal-setting sessions are named as 'Know-I-Can', a more challenging level 'Think-I-Can', and yearly 'Believe-I-Can' goals. An action plan with daily and weekly goals is created to ensure short-term and long-term gains.

Power Hour: Making Minutes Count – The members of the club aged 6-16 years are provided homework help and encouraged to become self-directed learners. A program kit is provided to the kids which includes a guidebook for homework helpers and tutors. Along with this, a chart is made to track and reward the progress of the participants.

Career Launch – It helps the club members in the age group of 13-18 years to assess their skills and make good educational decisions as well as prepare to join the ever-challenging work force. The tutors and volunteers at the club can use Career Exploration Quick Reference Guide to work with the teens in small teams to improve their job-search skills.
