How is America losing its vision and becoming blind to the reality of life? Humankind has a history from the very beginning of time of vision getting us into trouble. It started in Genesis.

God created us in his image. We became an instant enemy of Satan. Satan immediately enticed Eve and Adam to eat from the one fruit tree God had forbidden them to eat from in the Garden of Eden. You know that Satan picked the most beautiful fruit from that tree. He probably polished the fruit to make it appear shiny and appealing, just like the wicked witch polished the apple in Sleeping Beauty. He appeared to Eve as a snake. I believe Satan appeared as a snake to stimulate Eve’s limbic system or emotional center in her brain. The fear or apprehension of seeing and talking to a snake stimulated the emotional center of her brain. Doing this diminishes the influence of her brain’s logical portion, making her more prone to making a wrong decision. Satan knew how to manipulate her visually. If he appeared as a bunny rabbit, do you think he would have gotten the same result? If you want to influence someone, the best way is through their vision and present your message in an emotionally appealing way or in a way that promotes fear. Anything that will stimulate the emotional center in the brain.

How about the story of King David? He was one of God’s favorite people in the Bible, but he let his vision cause him to sin. If one of his guards told him there was a beautiful lady who lived a couple of houses from the palace, do you think he would have left the place to see her? Probably not! But the moment he saw her bathing on the roof, he was toast! He was blinded by the vision of her bathing on the roof and made a horrible decision. The visual stimulation caused his limbic system or emotions to override the logical portion of his brain. He let his vision cause him to sin.

The vision center in the brain has a specific direct connection to the limbic system. This is designed for safety or preservation. If you see something dangerous, the vision center directly connects what you see to the brain’s limbic area. This is the location of the fight or flight response necessary for your protection. If you need to react to a dangerous circumstance, you want to have a quick response. The downside is that that direct connection also stimulates all your emotions. So, everything you look at directly stimulates your emotions. The strength of your emotions can cancel out the logical portion of your cerebral cortex. That is why you never want to make an important decision when emotional or under stress.
