Now that we have an insight as to possible scenarios that may require one to buy a car without a license, let’s go back to the question raised at the inception of this article which is; can you buy a car without a license?
Can You Buy A Car Without A License?

The answer to that question is an emphatic “Yes”. You do not need a license to buy a car online or at a dealership. The fact remains that buying a car and driving one are two different things. While it is naturally required by law that car drivers have a valid license, the law does not require that a license be provided to buy a car.
However, noteworthy is the fact that while an individual may not necessarily need a license to buy a car online or at a dealership, it doesn’t mean the whole process will be hassle-free.

Can You Register a Car Without a License?

Registering a car is perhaps the greatest challenge associated with buying a car without a valid driver’s license. This is so because the vehicle can only be driven in public roads if it had already been registered in the owner’s name and is insured. Interestingly, if you want to have full ownership of the car, you must register the car at the point of purchase with a valid driver’s license.

To register a car in the UK, you need to have the following; your car's title, proof of car insurance, and your valid driver's license or ID. Once you provide the aforementioned documents you will need to pay a registration fee after which your new license plates will be provided for your car. With the issuance of your car license plates concludes your car registration proving you’re your car has been duly registered with the appropriate authority.Other Problems Associated with Buying a Car without a License

Asides finding it almost impossible to register a car when you don’t have a license, there are other problems associated with buying a car without a license namely;

• Shopping For Your Car: While buying that dream car at a dealership, it is only natural that you want to test-drive the car to ascertain the engine condition, car performance, handling and other factors. Unfortunately, a dealership will not allow you to test-drive a car without a valid driver’s license. As a result of this, it becomes a Herculean task for a car buyer to make a practical and informed choice while buying a car without first having a test-drive. A way around this is to bring an appointed representative with a valid license or a primary driver while you can be a passenger in the car during the test drive. As such, you can make an accurate decision concerning the car.

• Getting Insurance: Interestingly, the law states that all cars in the UK must be fully insured or at least to the level of third-party liability especially if they are to be driven in public roads or kept in public spaces. Essentially, car insurance is a must. The car insurance however, insures the car itself and not the driver. To get car insurance without a license, you will need to provide a primary driver with a valid license and a good driving history. Note that some insurance companies will not provide an insurance policy for your car if you the buyer are an excluded driver.
