Michigan Native Irene Kepler Earns Degrees, Work Experience in Home State

Irene Kepler Educated in Michigan and Works as Women’s Advocate, City Councilwoman and Adjunct University Professor

 
Irene Kepler is as native of the county seat of Isabella County, Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, located inside the Isabella Indian Reservation of the Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Nation, early on known as the Ojibwa tribe, which ceded vast amounts of land to white Europeans and was forcibly relocated to the Isabella Indian Reservation. For a time known for its oil strikes, Mt. Pleasant commemorated that part of its history by placing an oil well on its city seal. The mascot of Mt. Pleasant High School is still today the Oilers. 61 miles from the Michigan state capital, Lansing, Mt. Pleasant is anchored by the waters of the Chippewa River. Irene Kepler worked for Women’s Aids Services in Mt. Pleasant, where over 37% of the current population lives below the poverty line.

Irene Kepler worked in multiple community positions in and around Roseville and Macomb County simultaneously. As a Masters of Social Work Intern Supervisor at Roseville Community Schools, Kepler supervised Wayne State University student candidates for their Masters of Social Work in public schools and Federal social service policy. Kepler also served as a Roseville City Councilwoman for the Zoning Board of Appeals where she worked with economic development and commercial and residential appeals. At the same time, Kepler was a Board member for Turning Point Inc., a Domestic Violence and Sex assault nonprofit in Macomb County.

Irene Kepler earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, and her Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Michigan in Ann Arb or. A high achiever, Kepler’s Bachelor’s Degree was achieved with Magna cum laude distinction.

Irene Kepler has been studying for her Doctorate of Social Work at Capella University while serving as an Adjunct Professor at Southern Technical College instructing sociology, urban sociology, cultural diversity, psychology and abnormal psychology and child and human development. Southern Technical College is a for profit institution which provides programs for Associates and Bachelor’s degrees. Southern Technical has campuses at nine cities in Florida like Fort Myers, and offers instruction including Health, Business, Criminal Justice, Design, Electrical Trades, HVAC, Information Technology, Legal, Nursing and Welding.
