The Government of Canada announced that 300.000 new immigrants will be admitted to Canada in 2017. Canada needs for more immigrants to support its economical growth, to help counterbalance the impacts of an aging population and to continue building strong and bright multicultural communities.

The majority of selected immigrants come in the economic category with professional skills and experience that are able to quickly contribute to the Canadian economy. Canada will welcome 172.500 permanent residents in federal programs in skilled workers, skilled trades and Canadian experience class categories; the Provincial Nominee Program; business immigrants; caregivers; and skilled workers and business immigrants selected by Quebec.

In 2017, Canada will reunite more families, increasing the family class by 5%. As a result, 84.000 new immigrants will be admitted in the family class, including sponsored spouses, partners and children and parents and grandparents.

Canada remains committed to helping people in need from around the world. In 2017, Canadian permanent residence will receive 40.000 refugees including government assisted privately sponsored and protected persons.

Supporting others in need, a target of 3,500 admissions is planned on humanitarian and compassionate grounds.
