The Malhar tribal people of the village in Mccluskieganj, Jharkhand, subsist entirely on the resources available
to them in their immediate vicinity. Given the ease with which they live, the raw materials and methods of
production for their crafts in a genuinely old talent are also quite basic. Gathering metal sheets or bits, clay and
chaff for the mould, and wood for the furnace to heat the wax are the essential materials. The desired shape is
cast using a mould made of a combination of local clay and chaff gathered from agricultural waste.
RD Webcraft, the Youtube channel has recently come up with their unique presentation of Dokra art in this
part of India. They have explored the village like no other documentary has ever done. In fact, whereas
documentaries have been made before on the Dokra art in other areas of India, Mccluskieganj is the first time
place for Dokra documentaries.
The team has talked with Binu Malhar, one of the Dokra makers of the area. He talks of their work, the
tradition of their trade and many other matters of concern. A proper understanding of the dokra art and the
economic stability of the trade is easily understandable from the Documentary. To watch the documentary
one needs to visit to the official Youtube channel of RD Webcraft.
The documentary premieres this Wednesday on their channel.
