‘on determining the efficacy of working from home and the challenges it brought about
• The study was done across all the major cities of India and covered professionals across industry segments
• People still need an office - Most respondents (65%) want to spend only part of the week working from home. This means work from home is an alternative to working from the office and not its substitute.
• Respondents of different age groups show the varied perception of benefits and challenges.
• Time saved in travel seems to be the biggest motivation to choose work from home. Respondents with longer travel times tend to overlook other challenges to save time.
• Younger respondents find a lack of infrastructure at home and communication with colleagues as lacking while older respondents lament unscheduled work times as the biggest bane of Work from Home.
• Remote Offices/Satellite Offices: About 63% of the respondents feel comfortable with working from remote offices/satellite offices that are closer to home. It increases to 73% with those travelling more than 1 hr /day.

• WFH policies need to be flexible, accommodative and need to address these concerns.
Sneed, India’s leading workspace aggregator, completed an extensive study on Work from Home (WFH) and its efficacy on productivity. It also explored the relevance of an office in the post COVID era. The results showed that 79% of the respondents still feel the need for an office with 52% wanting to get back to their workspaces. A vast majority of them wanted to work out of an office at least 2-3 days a week. The data analysis across departments shows that HR and IT teams were keen on continuing with ‘WFH’ while sales and finance teams were eager to get back.

Respondents felt that WFH is helpful as it helps them save time and money and offered a better work/life balance. In the metros, a majority of the respondents (91%) voted ‘Saves Time’ as the most significant benefit of WFH.

Although everyone feels comfortable to work from home, the perceptions vary across age groups. While people over 45 years felt that they were very productive while working from home, the motivation levels were the lowest in the segment and the younger segment(18-24 years) feel the lack of communication the biggest letdown.

The findings indicate that organisations cannot opt for a complete Work from Home Set up and will have to manage with remote and smaller offices in different clusters of the city to aid teams to come together a few days a week in an office environment. Amit Prabhu, Founder and CEO of www.sneed.in, said that “There is reluctance on the part of the employees to come back to the office right now. Work from home is an exciting alternative to the office but will not replace it entirely. Social interaction is an essential part of the corporate culture, and we will see the emergence of new hybrid models of offices that will be convenient and efficient for all the stakeholders”.
