Australia — [7 April 2025] — The Australian Government has announced an adjustment to the income thresholds for skilled visa nominations, set to take effect from 1 July 2025. This 4.6% increase aligns with the annual Average Weekly Ordinary Time Earnings (AWOTE) indexation, ensuring that skilled migrants receive fair compensation in line with current wage standards across the country.
Revised Income Thresholds:
• Core Skills Income Threshold (CSIT): Rising from AUD 73,150 to AUD 76,515. This applies to nominations under the Core Skills stream of the Skills in Demand (subclass 482) Visa and the Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186) Visa.
• Specialist Skills Income Threshold (SSIT): Increasing from AUD 135,000 to AUD 141,210. This pertains to nominations under the Specialist Skills stream of the Skills in Demand (subclass 482) Visa.
• Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT): Rising from AUD 73,150 to AUD 76,515. This affects nominations for the Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (subclass 494) Visa and the Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (subclass 187) Visa
These adjustments are part of the government's commitment to annual indexation, ensuring that skilled migrants' wages keep pace with those of Australian workers and maintaining the integrity of the skilled migration program.
Employers intending to nominate skilled workers on or after 1 July 2025 must offer salaries that meet or exceed the new thresholds or the annual market salary rate, whichever is higher. Nominations submitted before this date will not be subject to the increased thresholds. Existing visa holders and nominations lodged prior to 1 July 2025 will remain unaffected by these changes.
