Madrid, Spain, May 31, 2013 - New York’s ICFF and HD EXPO fairs are the two main US showcases in the furniture sector, and have served as an important meeting point for Spanish manufacturers and North American opinion formers.

The United States is still in love with Spanish design, and this was clearly evident this month at the two most important fairs in the sector. While Spanish sales in 2012 exceeded €3.191 billion, exports between January and February 2013 rose by around 14% with respect to the same period a year earlier.

The international success of Spanish interior design and home living sector companies has resulted from the country’s firm decision to expand into new markets, with the United States being one of the most important. It is the seventh leading importer of Spanish tiles, the eighth top buyer of furniture, and the sixth biggest customer for “made in Spain” home textiles. The goods sold by Spanish companies are known for their variety and wealth of styles, as well as the large number of comprehensive furnishing projects being undertaken by Spanish firms all over the world.

Some 13 Spanish companies attended ICFF in New York through ICEX, which also organised different Spanish design shows in the Big Apple, with the famous Bergdorf Goodman store showing off glamorous designs from the studios of Marset and Vondom, two Spanish companies at the cutting edge of interiors design. Spanish design from Wanda Barcelona was also on display at the W Hotel.

Meanwhile, the HD Expo in Las Vegas, an event for top-level companies in the contemporary living design segment, was attended by 17 furniture, lighting, textile, flooring, bathroom and interior design accessories companies. This was a great success, since the fair is attended every year by specialist visitors including interior designers, decorators, builders, architecture studios, as well as large hotel, catering and restaurant groups.
