How to make Building Sustainable and last longer?

What goes into a green blueprint? What does it take to design sustainable commercial buildings? An eco-conscious architect has to answer these questions and others like them.

They account for dozens of factors when drafting an office or industrial space to reduce its impact on the environment. Fortunately, innovations in modern building practices have simplified architects’ responsibilities. New materials and technologies have given them the flexibility they need to develop plans that satisfy high standards of sustainability. They no longer need to make so many difficult compromises.

With advances in eco-friendly building materials, architectural films, renewable energy systems and green solutions, a better balance with the planet is possible. We’ll describe these advances in greater detail, taking a look at four of the recent changes in commercial design that show significant potential.

1. Install double-glazed windows
Double glazed windows help to insulate house making it cooler during the summer and warmer during the winter. One can as well use thermal blackout curtains in place of double-glazed windows in case they are too costly.

2. Choose energy-efficient appliances
Swapping of the regular electrical appliances with energy-saving certified products is highly desirable for a sustainable house.

3. Minimizing resource wastage
During construction, recycling of wastes can be done to reduce the accumulation of wastes as much as possible. For instance, materials can be sourced demolished products which have been recycled.

4. Usage of renewable electricity sources
This is done through the installation of a small-scale wind turbid or micro- hydro system. Choosing of the power company that generates sources that are renewable is also recommended.

5. Creating a comfortable eco house with a passive design
A house that has a passive design makes the room to cool and heat naturally; this is will the occupants comfortable due to its excellent orientation and proper ventilations, this house will facilitate the sun rays in during cold seasons and will be able to cool down during the hot season. The house can also be designed to receive more natural light than artificial light, reducing the overall electricity costs.

6. Assess Durability and Lifespan of Foundations
Life expectancy in architecture and construction is growing in importance. Durable materials such as brick, stone, and concrete have a longer lifetime and are more eco-friendly during the demolition and disposal phase. Extensions, renovations, and refurbishments stretch the life of a building, especially when structures are built using durable materials.

7. Determine Whether Property Can Be Run On Solar
Solar power converts the sun’s radiation into energy. Installing solar panels may be expensive, but in the long run saves a lot of money and energy consumption. However, to take advantage of solar power, location must be considered, as well as the positioning of solar panels. Estimating software assists in determining how much power can be collected and saved.

8. Research Ways to Keep Your Roof Cool
In particularly tropical areas like Australia, a building's exposure to the sun can result in heat being trapped inside the roof, gradually warming up the interior of the building. Green roofs are an innovative solution to this problem. Heat-reducing methods such as using reflective roof paint, roof covering, tiles, or planting grass will result in a cooler building, and save the energy and money it would otherwise take to cool it.

Among the most popular technologies are solar photo voltaic panels, solar thermal panels, biomass boilers and ground-source or air-source heat pumps. Other renewable options include off grid sewage treatment and rainwater harvesting.

These basic principles when combined with the methodology illustrated below should ensure that performance, quality and comfort are all delivered on any sustainable build.
