"As long as it's green, I don't care" is one of those things you may have heard being uttered by your very own lips. And every time you've said it in the past, you've done so with all the sincerity you could muster. However, when the dandelions and daisies are overtaking the garden, you realise that hoping for green, without doing anything to promote it, is not getting it done.

Either you need to learn how to do it yourself, or you need a lawn care company.

Knowing you have neither the patience nor gardening acumen to handle such a complex project, how do you choose a lawn care company? After all, there are literally dozens to choose from in any local area. Not to worry. We will give you some helpful tips to get you started in the right direction.

Tip #1 – Learn the Language

Before you can choose a lawn care company, you need to meet with a representative discuss how they do business. However, there is something you need to do even before that initial meeting: learn the language of lawn care. Otherwise, you will be subject to a full glossary of words you have never heard in the context of sentences that make no sense to you.

For example, 'aeration' is one of those terms we all think we know the definition of, only to find out later it has nothing to do with enjoying a carbonated drink on a hot, sunny day. The more you know and understand the lawn care language, the more you will be able to effectively communicate with company representatives.

Tip #2 – Learn the Pricing

Like any other service-oriented business, lawn care is one in which customers are charged based on both labour and supplies. Therefore, it is helpful to know how each company you are looking at develops their pricing structure. Do they charge for a full season regardless of the number and types of treatments, or do they charge according to each individual treatment and what it entails?

Some lawn care companies that charge by the season also include extra services like spring and autumn clean-up and, when necessary, snow removal for paths and drives. These are all things you need to be aware of when you compare the prices among competing companies.

Tip #3 – Get It in Writing

Under no circumstances should you sign a contract with a lawn care company without getting everything in writing. And by 'everything', we mean just that. Insist the company clearly spell out the total cost of their services, what types of chemicals they use, how often they will visit, their refund and contract cancellation policies, and so on.

Tip #4 – Get Some References

Service-based businesses like lawn care know they will live or die on their own reputations. So any company worth doing business with will be more than happy to provide a handful of references you can call and check with. Be sure to ask for them.

When you contact each of the references, there is no need to take an hour of their time discussing the finer points of life. Just a few basic questions like "Is the company dependable?", "Did they keep their promises?", and "How does your garden look?" should be more than sufficient.

Finding a good lawn care company is more about research than simply rolling the dice. If you ask the right questions and demand accountability, you are likely to find a company that delivers as promised. Your lawn will be green and, in the end, you will get what you have been hoping for all along. For more information about Lawn turf visit http://www.rukeri.com/
