MTP kit is most widely used pregnancy termination kit. This kit is the set of medication consisting of two drug called as mifepristone and misoprostol. These two drugs are combined to terminate the pregnancy effectively. The two drugs mifepristone and misoprostol, can also be used separately for the abortion purpose but there is no guarantee of effective termination.
MTP kit will be useful only if a woman is few week pregnant. The woman pregnant for more than 9 weeks will not be able to terminate the pregnancy, as terminating pregnancy after certain weeks can be complicated. The late termination is mostly avoided because late termination will put woman’s health in danger.
The two drug used in MTP kit performs different operations and may have different effects. Among these two drugs mifepristone is taken first. Mifepristone drug is anti-progesterone which causes the uterine lining which breaks and depart the fetus from supported attachment. Once the fetus is separated the pregnancy part is stopped from growing and the womb is ready to take off the contents. The cervix become wider and wider, uterus starts to contract. Misoprostol contracts the uterus; contraction can be mild and strong depending on the length of pregnancy. This drug is also responsible for expelling the pregnancy contents from the pregnant woman. After misoprostol medication, the woman may suffer from heavy bleeding and cramping. The large blood clots are passed through the vagina.
