Merriment in Stillness
BOULDER, CO, December 22nd, 2015 – Although it may sound heretical to some people, it’s safe to say that at least one of the three wise men came from Japan or somewhere in Asia, since all three of them traveled from the East to the Middle-East on Christmas Eve. At least that’s how the Bible tells this very flexible story http://www.gotquestions.org/three-wise-men.html
Although many different styles of platform-beds exist, the most influential seem to be derived from Japan. Traditionally, Japanese bed-frames were close to the ground, providing extra vertical space in one’s bedroom, and they often included Tatami straw mats for extra support. Comfort, simplicity, and the most judicious use of space were the basic concepts behind this traditional type of platform-bed. Inspired by this notion, Haiku Designs combined it with a contemporary sensibility, resulting in a remarkable collection of Japanese furniture that fits well with any shifting domestic environment.
In her book Zen for Christians, a beginners Guide, Kim Boykin explains Zen this way: “Zen is not about doctrine or beliefs. It’s not about worship or devotion. Zen is not theistic, and it isn’t atheistic, either, or even agnostic. Zen simply doesn’t address the subject of God. In Zen, the Buddha is not understood to be a god or messiah or superhuman but an ordinary human being who discovered a way of liberation from suffering and taught this way to others.”
Please, consider buying a small living Christmas tree this year, and then plant it in your front yard or your back yard as a New Year’s ritual, as a way of repopulating the trees of our diminishing forests . . . We design the options, and you design your home . . . https://www.haikudesigns.com/japanese-beds.htm
