May 1, 2018! Save the date for the newest version of the OpenSIPS. OpenSIPS 2.4 cluster is going to launch in 6 months. Recently the OpenSIPS Blog has announced its date for the release and the latest features and capabilities of the newest version.

Gventure developers are familiar with the latest updates of OpenSIPS for creating communication solutions that can help VoIP service providers internationally. We are renowned OpenSips Development Company.Let us know about OpenSIPS before knowing anything about the latest version.

OpenSIPS (Open SIP Server) is a developed Open Source implementation of a SIP server that runs on Linux platforms and play in the infrastructure of an Internet Telephony Service Provider and it includes application-level functionality. OpenSIPS, as a SIP server, is the main component of any SIP-based VoIP solution. With a very stretchy and customize routing engine, OpenSIPS unifies voice, video, IM and presence services in a highly efficient way, thanks to its scalable (modular) design. Be it constructing feature-rich applications for routing logic, managing millions of simultaneous calls, or flexibility of routing- OpenSIPS can supervise any kind of SIP service efficiently.

Now coming to OpenSIPS 2.4 release, it focuses on the clustering abilities for meeting the changing requirements of the dynamic VoIP world. The OpenSIPS developers want to address the clustering from both the underlayer and functionalities viewpoint in the upcoming OpenSIPS 2.4. The clustered approach is compulsory for improving scalability with growing traffic load, ensuring High-Availability, and enhancing geographical distribution. The most updated version is going to present a steady clustered solution with the following features:

Custom clustering: The ability to broadcast a custom message or action in the cloud or send to a given node using the clustering underlayer is done in OpenSips 2.4. With this feature, it is easy to build custom distributed functionality at script level directly.

Clustered media relays: As OpenSIPS has the ability to work together with several types of media relays, the clustering support will assist OpenSIPS do distribute load-balancing over the relays even if a relay is used by multiple nodes in the cluster, all the nodes will share information on the load on the relay, to avoid overloading or idle time.

Anycast support: To be able to build anycast support requires OpenSIPS to replicate/share transaction state across the nodes in the cluster. A full anycast and light anycast support will be available depending on the nature of the replication.

Distributed presence server: Quite similar as the distributed user location, a distributed presence server provides a reliable, but distributed way of sharing presence information; SIP entities may publish data via different nodes in the SIP cluster, while the subscribers may fetch presence data via multiple various nodes. Two approaches are under work:

(a) A cluster exclusively relying on OpenSIPS for data sharing.
(b) A cluster built around a NoSQL DB based on primary data storage.

Clustering engine: Enhances the capabilities of controlling the cluster topology, like re-routing for bypassing broken links, the dynamic joining of new nodes, support for multiple capabilities per node, data syncing between nodes etc.

Distributed user location: This is a very complex topic as it exceeds the simple concept of data sharing. You may have different constraints on how data is travelling in a cluster; registrations may be joined to a node due to NAT or TCP constraints. So, numerous solutions are feasible here, depending on what is to be achieved (scaling, redundancy) and what the network constraints are.

OpenSIPS 2.3 was doing well so OpenSIPS decided to push forward on this path with the 2.4 version as well and added some more integration:

• Homer integration to be able to report TCP statistics, DB events and media relay events via HEP.
• SIPREC integration for standard call recording. The new SIPREC module provides a standard and transparent (for the call parties) way to do call recording against an external recorder.
• FreeSWITCH integration For being able to control a FreeSWITCH call from OpenSIPS script via ESL.
• Asterisk integration Load-Balancing for a more realistic and accurate traffic balancing over Asterisk clusters.

Important dates to be noted in reference to OpenSIPS 2.4:
• Beta Release – 12-16 March 2018
• Stable Release – 23-27 April 2018
• General Availability – 1st of May 2018
