Greenbuild Supply, a trusted Australian supplier of LSZH cable management solutions and electrical conduit pipes, is proud to announce its involvement in the Kidston Pumped Storage Hydro Project in Far North Queensland. This innovative project, led by GENEX Power and constructed by McConnell Dowell under the management of John Holland, marks a significant milestone in the advancement of sustainable energy in Australia and worldwide.
The Kidston Hydro Project is the first of its kind, converting a disused gold mine into a pumped storage hydroelectric power generation facility. This natural battery storage facility is set to generate up to 250 MW of rapid response power to Australia’s National Electricity Market, providing a flexible and efficient solution to energy storage and demand management.
Greenbuild Supply has been chosen to provide its exclusive range of LSZH cable management systems for this landmark project. The decision to incorporate Greenbuild’s products was influenced by several key factors.
Greenbuild’s LSZH (Low Smoke Zero Halogen) cable management systems are designed to offer superior fire resistance and environmental safety. The LSZH products contain no chlorine, bromine, fluorine, or iodine, ensuring that they do not release any toxic or corrosive chemicals when exposed to flame or moisture. This feature is critical for the Kidston Hydro Project, where safety and environmental sustainability are paramount.
The LSZH range is also Green Star-rated, meaning it is produced sustainably and verified suitable for Green Star builds. This aligns with the Kidston project’s commitment to advancing renewable energy and reducing environmental impact.
Greenbuild’s products have undergone rigorous testing to ensure they meet the highest standards of safety and performance. The LSZH conduits and fittings are tested for extreme temperature resistance, withstanding conditions from -45°C to +120°C. This makes them ideal for the diverse environmental conditions present in the Kidston project, from the underground infrastructure to the exposed outdoor elements.
Additionally, the LSZH range demonstrates exceptional impact and UV resistance, ensuring long-term durability and reliability. This is particularly important for a project of this scale, where the infrastructure must endure and perform effectively over many years.
Greenbuild Supply’s team brings over 75 years of collective industry experience, providing a depth of knowledge and expertise in cable management solutions. Their involvement in previous major infrastructure projects, such as Metro Tunnel VIC and Cross River Rail QLD, underscores their capability and reliability.
The collaborative approach taken by Greenbuild, working closely with John Holland, GENEX Power, and McConnell Dowell, ensures a tailored procurement process that delivers the right materials at the right time. This has been a key factor in their selection for the Kidston Hydro Project, where precision and efficiency are critical to the project’s success.
The Kidston Pumped Storage Hydro Project is set to create 800 jobs and generate enough electricity to power over 100,000 homes for eight hours. It represents a game-changing approach to large-scale energy storage, showcasing an entirely new method of converting disused industrial sites into valuable renewable energy resources.
Greenbuild Supply’s participation in this groundbreaking project highlights the critical role of advanced, environmentally-friendly materials in the future of sustainable construction and energy infrastructure. Their LSZH cable management systems provide the safety, durability, and compliance necessary for this pioneering venture, contributing to a more sustainable energy future for Australia and beyond.
