The extradition bill has proposed that certain criminals from Hong Kong would be eligible for extradition to mainland China. However the new bill and the controversy surrounding it is highly unlikely to affect Hong Kong immigration. Immigration to Hong Kong from countries like India is mostly among the highly skilled or semi-skilled workers, who have requisite educational and experience background and are expected to contribute to the economy. The bill which is an issue regarding the Hong Kong government and citizens who are being held under trial for various crimes, is not likely to have an impact on the general economic functioning or immigration process of the country.
