The United Kingdom is planning to exit from the EU on 31 October, 2019. In her speech, which was delivered from the House of Lords, the Queen of England, spoke about a new immigration bill and said that it will lay the foundation for a modern, fair, and global immigration system.

Australia Immigration System to Be Emulated In UK

The queen assured that the UK government would remain committed to allowing European citizens, who are residents of the country to have the right to stay back in the country. The queen also spoke about changing the immigration system in the country to emulate the Australia immigration system. This would enable the UK to bring in more skilled workers into the country and make the immigration merit based. The home office of the United Kingdom has been soliciting the advice of the Australian government in this regard.

As per the new Australian-style, immigration system, immigrants can opt for additional points in their comprehensive scores if they choose to live outside London, which was a part of the many reforms that were outlined by the queen in her speech.

The new system would be designed in a manner that would attract skilled labor to rural and less prosperous parts of the country, which are facing a shortage of labor in key industries. Immigration applicants to the UK, would also be awarded with bonus points if they are educated and are younger

Applicants will need to have the ability to communicate effectively in English. Points will be given to applicants who are considered to be proficient, while those who are deemed to have a superior ability of communication in English will be given even more points.

The Australian immigration system has been admired by none other than the British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who expressed his intentions for overhauling the UK immigration based on the Australian model. According to the home secretary Priti Patel, the United Kingdom would introduce a new bill that would attract and retain the brightest and most skilled immigrants into the country and that would give more weightage to brilliance

Earlier this month, Ms. Patel had met with Peter Dutton – who is her Australian counterpart to exchange notes on the same.
