Sweden's gift to the world Alexander Skarsgard was barely recognizable, save for his towering height, when he showed up at the red carpet premier of his latest movie "The Diary of a Teenage Girl" in San Francisco, California. Still sporting his signature golden locks, albeit this time long and teased, the six-foot tall actor sashayed his way to the event in full drag queen glory.

sculpted physique in "True Blood" made women go crazy, decided to glam up with a full-length gold dress, a set of lavishly long false eyelashes, and a wig that truly screams 1970s razzle-dazzle volume. A statuesque vision, Skarsgard turned heads and confused quite a few spectators. See his complete look here.

While the actor did not offer an explanation, reports claimed that Skarsgard's act was in homage to Joshua Grannell, popularly known as the drag entertainer "Peaches Christ" and his co-star in The Diary of a Teenage Girl. With the movie set in the transgender-friendly district of Castro, Skarsgard's dress-up is nothing short of appropriate and refreshing.

Posing with the 38-year-old actor in their equally vibrant retro costumes were co-star Bel Powley and director Marielle Heller. Powley played the character of a 15-year-old girl who learned about her sexuality when she was seduced into an affair by her mother's boyfriend (Skarsgard). Her mother was portrayed by Kristen Wiig.

According to Vanity Fair, the red carpet event was not Skarsgard's first drag gig. In the 2006 film "Kill Your Darlings" by Bjorne Larson, the Swedish hunk has played the part of a tranvestite, although his suicidal character's wardrobe was not as classy. The magazine website further reported that the fledgling drag queen managed to pull off the look all the way through an after-party. Skarsgard must have done local drag performer Mercedez Munro, who did his makeup, so proud when one community drag queen posed for a selfie with him and remarked at his beauty.

The Diary of a Teenage Girl is a comedy-drama film based on Phoebe Gloeckner's graphic novel published in 2002. It made a premier at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival and is set to hit the cinemas on August 7.
