Choosing the right Kippah for you is something that needs to be related to what your group accepts and finds appropriate. The different colours and the variety of materials they are made of make a statement on the religion and personal beliefs of the man wearing them. If you go to a Jewish residence, you will notice that these hats are worn not only by men, but there are also models for women and even for children. As you may know, Kippahs are worn all day and all night, meaning that they can get dirty really fast. If you are thinking about purchasing a new hat like this every single time your old one gets dirty would mean that you would have to spend a lot of money unnecessarily.

As we have said before, depending on the materials they are made of and the colours they come in, these Kippahs are specifically worn by different groups. For example, if we are referring to a Kippah that is large and it is also knitted, then the man wearing it is considered to be a traditional Jew. Another interesting example would be if you were to see a man wearing a small skull cap that is black and also crocheted. This certain type of hat is worn by young Orthodox Jewish people. If you were to see skull caps that are black and made out of satin or cloth, then we are talking about the people that belong to the Haredim community.

How do you clean a velvet or a cotton Kippah? Well, when it comes to cotton, this is a very good option if it is accepted in the circle that you belong to. Pieces of clothing made out of cotton are not that pretentious and are easily washable and cleaned. Another great advantage of these Kippahs made out of cotton is the fact that during hot summer days, Jewish people wearing them will not sweat as much as if they were to wear hats made of other materials. This is because cotton is not such a dense material and it allows our skin to breathe easily. Especially when it comes to children, seeing as they are very active, such a skull cap would be best for them.

When it comes to the velvet skull caps, there is a way that you can clean so that it looks brand new after every wash. You can actually wash it in the machine, but you need to leave it only for two minutes so that it does not get ruined. Also, in order to get it fluffed, you need to leave it in the dryer for one minute and that is it. After that, you take it out of the dryer and stretch it properly to the size it was originally, before you washed it. Do not forget to clip it so that it does not shrink, but be careful how you do it so that there is not mark left there.
