Becoming a board-certified attorney in the state of Florida is a real honor. Board certification is granted in an attorney’s area of specialty. Attorney Grant Gisondo is a Family Law attorney, and only 1% of all Family Law attorneys in the state of Florida are board-certified. It has taken attorney Gisondo years to achieve this high honor and become able to put the initials BCS (Board Certified Specialist) after his name. He is to be congratulated.

To begin with, an attorney must have been in active practice in their field of specialty for a minimum of five years to apply for board certification. He or she must be in good standing with the Florida Bar and complete the standards required by the Florida Supreme Court. Rigorous testing and examination are administered by the Florida Bar, which also evaluates each candidate. Demonstration of ethics and professionalism in the practice of law as well as expertise in their chosen field must be shown. Certification is awarded for five years, and then an attorney must re-establishthemselves in the same way as the original application required. And, during the five-year period of certification, the attorney must complete ongoing educational requirements set forth by the Florida Bar. Laws and rules are constantly changing, and a board-certified attorney must stay on top of each change.
