New York - Last month, the earlier conducted research on marijuana was attributed with another research which supported the findings of the previous research.

The research team found that three puffs a day of cannabis, also known as marijuana, helps people suffering from chronic nerve pain due to an injury or surgery feel less pain and sleep better. A huge number of patients attending a chronic pain clinic have benefited by using cannabis as part of their pain control strategy along with hydrocodone pills.

This new study supports the evidence that cannabis may help some of the patients who are struggling with chronic pain. In this study about 21 men and women, average age 45 were evaluated, who had chronic nerve pain.

The research team tried three different potencies of marijuana, with the concentration at 2.5%, 6% and 9.4% tetrahydrocannabinol herbal cannabis (THC).

Each person was in the study for 2 months, and used all four strengths, including the placebo one. The dosages were rotated through different orders, and they didn't know which they were using.

The marijuana was put into gelatin capsules, and then put into the bowl of a pipe. Each person was told to inhale for 5 seconds while the marijuana was lit, hold the smoke in their lungs for about 10 seconds, and then exhale the smoke out.

They did this single puff 3 times a day for five days for each of the doses and the placebo too. The participants were allowed to continue on their routine pain medications such as Hydrocodone 80mg and other pills.

After each of the five-day trials, each participant rated their pain on a scale of 0 to 10, with 10 being the worst intensity.

As per the evaluation, the highest dose, 9.4%, provided relief and it reduced their pain down to 5.4. Those on placebo were at 8.1.

The study shows again that Marijuana is analgesic and it has medical value.

Experts claim cannabis relieves pain ''changing the way the nerves function, just as hydrocodone pills do. They also pointed out the average daily pain relief was lower for people taking the marijuana along with remedies.

It has to be taken into consideration too that only using medical marijuana is not going to hugely provide relief from pain. Expert suggests using it along with pain medication and incorporating it into the pain management strategies.
