Know the process
Stump grinding services is usually the last step in the process of tree removal. Typically the removal equipment will leave the remaining stub trees 4-6 inches above the ground to the stump grinder care. Stumps come in all shapes and sizes. Some snags have tracks and some have wheels. Some stumps grinding machines are operated through remote control and some are operated by the handles of the machine. Stumps all use the same process for grinding. There is a cutting wheel rotate in the front of the machine with carbide teeth attached to it. Once the stump grinder is maneuvered into place and engages the wheel grinding start.
Once you engage the cutting wheel will work back and forth on the stump. It will be ground about 2 inches at a time. The typical stump is milled to a depth of 6-8 inches below the grade.
After the stump grinding process is done all the fertilizer will be raked into a pile and set aside. If you are planning on installing new grass or trees and shrubs you will need to remove vegetation cover.
