LED stands for Light Emitting Diode and the first LED was invented by Nick Holonyack in 1962. In this age, people want energy-efficient and healthy lights for their place of living and working. That is why they are switching from traditional lighting to LEDs. Unlike, old incandescent lighting systems, these are far more efficient, brighter and long-lasting. LED lights only utilize less than half of electricity than traditional tubes & bulbs. Due to this lots of energy and money can be saved, especially in those places that require light 24*7.

2. Long Service Life

In comparison to traditional lighting, LED lights do not “burn out”, they will dim over time. It is said that their life span is between 30,000–50,000 hours and sometimes even larger. This reduces the cost of buying new bulbs and tubes in houses, offices and, other establishments

3. Reliable in Cold Temperature

In contrast to conventional lighting systems, LEDs perform smoothly when the temperature drops down. That is why they are installed in refrigerated display cases, freezers and cold storage spaces. Besides, they are also used in building perimeter, parking lot, and sign-age.

4. Highly Durable

Traditional lighting has glass or quartz exterior which makes it susceptible to damage. But LED lighting is made of semiconductor materials like Germanium or Silicon and also, it is mounted on a circuit board and connected with soldered leads, thus they are more durable.

5. No Re-Strike Delay after Switching on

We all have noticed that most tubes do not emit full brightness after they are switched on, they take two minutes or more to reach the maximum light output. LEDs are designed in such a way that they provide full brightness instantly.

6. Lesser Carbon Footprint

Carbon footprint is the amount of carbon dioxide that is released into the atmosphere due to the activities of a particular individual, organization, or community. It is estimated that approximately 50% of carbon footprint is due to electricity, in which 17% is because of traditional lighting. As we all know that LED lights use less energy and hence they emit less greenhouse gas i.e. carbon dioxide.
