Geoffrey Lafond has worked hard to become the head of obstetrics and gynecology at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, the largest hospital on the island of Barbados. Located in the island’s capital, Bridgetown, the hospital brings in a wide variety of patients and offers comprehensive emergency treatment and care for many different types of ailments and diseases. As an OB/GYN, Lafond’s focus is on pregnancy and childbirth, as well as treating problems with the female reproductive system.

Barbados has one of the most highly ranked, comprehensive health care systems in the Caribbean. The country’s stable economy allows the government to spend money on taking care of its citizens, and therefore many public health care services are free to Barbadians. There are also many options for private and specialized health care that charge fees. In his work as an OB/GYN, Lafond has treated many reproductive conditions, including gynecological cancers, ectopic pregnancies, infertility, and even pregnant women affected with the Zika virus. He has done extensive research and is particularly interested in using minimally invasive, laparoscopic surgery to treat many common reproductive conditions. He is the director of Caribbean Gynaecological Endoscopic Surgery, as well as a member of the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, both prestigious positions. He also studied at the University of the West Indies, which is well known for having one of the best and most successful medical programs in the Caribbean.

Geoffrey Lafond is originally from Roseau, Dominica, where he grew up and attended primary and secondary school. He loves sports, and played several such as cricket and soccer as a child. He even represented the island of Dominica on a national youth sports team while in high school. Sports continue to be a passion of his in his free time.
