Adopting a greyhound is the most amazing thing one can ever do. It is not an unknown matter that greyhounds are born athletes. People might think that they are fierce and loud. But, surprisingly, they are one of the quietest species, making them a unique indoor pet. But when greyhounds are rehomed, initially, some extra care must be taken.

The first week
1. Ask your queries
Experts like to answer their customers' questions. So, ask as many questions as you have in mind while fostering a greyhound. You can ask every silly question no matter what.
2. Train them to use the washroom
It is the primary training that is given to dogs. In the greyhound adoption centre, they know the toilet area. Hence, when you bring them to your house, introduce them to the toilet area respectively.
3. Let them explore the house
As it is a new place, allow them to move around the house and make themselves comfortable. Then, give them their space to find an area where they can play.
4. Introduce them to the other pets in the house
New pets must be introduced to the existing ones. So, as a greyhound is rehomed, it is imperative to introduce them to the other pets in the house to avoid fights.
5. Build a routine
Make a routine of the lifestyle the greyhound will be leading. This will help to adjust to the new environment quickly.
The second week
1. Maintain the routine
As you step into the second week, ensure to maintain the same routine. It will help you to understand the hound's behavioural aspects. Additionally, it is beneficial for their health.
2. Visit the vet
Greyhounds, at times, suffer from dental issues. So, their diet mainly consists of wet food. Hence visit a vet if you notice tartar. A vet will guide you about their feeding routine.
3. Take them for a walk
Like indoors, greyhounds must be taken outside so that they get acquainted with the outside world. If these two weeks are maintained appropriately, they will be fully prepared to be a new family member.
