Importance of dry cow management in sustainable milk production and control of mastitis.

Ariviya hosted an online event on LinkedIn on the topic " Importance of dry cow management in sustainable milk production and control of mastitis."
Ariviya is a Nano biotech Startup; it invents scientific, scalable, marketable solutions for real-world problems in animal welfare & human wellness.

Its primary vision is to help dairy farms sustain milk production and improve milk quality by preventing mastitis and its associated economic loss. As part of it, an informative online talk was given by Dr. Chinnadurai, Farm Veterinarian/Vice President, Ariviya Inc. On Dry Cow Management and steps taken to ensure a trouble-free and profitable lactation period in the upcoming years.

Generally, the dairy cow's mammary gland requires a non-lactating (dry) period before delivery to optimize milk production in the subsequent lactation. This period is called the dry period, and it includes the time between milk stasis and the subsequent calving, a dry period of 60 days recommended.

Proper management and well-balanced nutrition of the dry cow are critical to obtaining maximum dry matter intake, good health, increased reproductive efficiency, and optimum milk production in the following lactation.

Another critical aspect of the dry period is Dry-Cow Therapy (DCT). It is the treatment of cows at the end of lactation with long acting intramammary infusion. DCT aims to treat any intra-mammary infections and protect against new infections during the dry period.

The current market available long-acting antibiotic treatment have certain limitations. As it led to the emergence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, and if the withdrawal period is not calculated correctly, it may pollute the food chain with antibiotic residue. Comprehensive research is going on to identify a cost-effective and health-effective alternative. As Ariviya is already traveling in the same arena, we expect to research & launch a new product to our pipeline products.
