Robert Miller, president of Future Electronics, reinforces the company's strong focus and expertise on microcontrollers, with Advanced Engineers to support customers.

Robert Miller, President of Fture Electronics, a global leading distributor of electronic components, continues to place strong emphasis on the company's focus on microcontrollers.

Future Electronics prides itself on its expertise in the field of microcontrollers. Todd Baker, Corporate Vice President, who works closely with Robert Miller, President of Future Electronics, recently wrote an article explaining what microcontrollers are and what they do, which was recently featured in the company's magazine. An abridged version of the article follows herein.

For decades, 8-bit MCU architectures were the embedded system architecture of choice and absolutely dominated the worldwide market share. They were the simplest to design with, lowest power consuming, and cheapest to manufacture, which made them perfect for the high volume industrial and commercial applications of the past. Over the last few years that has drastically changed, and new processor core designs, along with smaller silicon manufacturing capabilities, have led to a great shift towards 32-bit MCU architectures. These more advanced architectures are now capable of the same higher performance they've always had, with much lower power consumption and price points than were formerly possible.

Approximately 80% of an embedded project's design time is spent on writing firmware for the MCU. The MCU is almost always the first part selected on a design and it will set the course for every capacitor, voltage regulator, PHY and connector that the design will need.

Future Electronics' Advanced Engineers help educate and support customers during this long MCU selection process. While the customer is focused on code and is calling the AE to ask for assistance with MCU bugs, the AE is able to monitor the design and recommend regulators, connectors, and other components that the engineer hasn't even considered yet.

The Advanced Engineering Group has the know-how and the passion to be the point people in the market for our sales team and our suppliers. Our network of leading supplier partners gives us a wide product offering and the expertise to support customers.
