Septic tanks are underground water tanks that hold the wastewater generated from a household. The biological wastes are collected in the tanks by the process of sedimentation. However, the process needs the best quality septic tanks as the primary stage of the total method is conducted in the septic tank itself. The Septic Tanks in Ontario find application in areas that don’t have a dedicated sewage system or are not connected with the sewage networks.

The domestic septic tank

The household Septic Tanks in BC are connected with the in-house wastewater source. An inlet pipe collects the wastewater to store it in the septic tank. The duration of the storage continues until the water is separated into three layers;

1. Scum: The top layer is mainly comprised of oil and grease and floats above the waste. It is known as scum.
2. The wastewater: The middle layer is the wastewater mixed with wastes submerged within it.
3. Sludge: The bottom layer consists of particles more substantial than water, and these get precipitated from a segment called sludge.

Anaerobic bacteria, which means bacteria that can live and function without the presence of oxygen, break down the solid particles into smaller ones, allowing the resulting liquid to separate and drain more quickly.

The fiberglass tanks- a better option

The septic tanks are made of concrete, plastic, or fiberglass. The material gets chosen as per the requirement of the house, the soil characteristics, and the type of waste generated. Usually, the old tanks are made up of concrete. However, the new and expert companies are now suggesting shells of fiberglass, with the following reasons for their recommendation as septic tanks;

a. Less weight: Tanks made of concrete are very heavy and often get built on the spot before using. Fiberglass tanks are lightweight and are easy to ship and install to the site.

b. Corrosion-resistant: The fiberglass itself is material that resists agent causing corrosion and therefore is safe and sturdy, requiring no replacement for more than a decade.

c. Cost-effective: The tanks made of fiberglass cost less than other materials and hence easy within a budget of the client.

Environmental impact

In the wastewater that is collected, anaerobic bacteria added from the outside perform a biological decomposition process known as anaerobic digestion, and the resultant liquid is dispersed and drained accordingly. Like other ones, the Septic Tanks need cleaning after some time. Without cleaning, the accumulated pollutants can harm the adjoining soil, not to mention the additional costs of cleaning of the clogged inlet and outlet. Using fiberglass-made Septic Tanks in Ontario will be easy to maintain with a long time between the cleaning period.
