(Long-Time Executive Promoted To CEO of Goldrich Kest)

One of California’s largest and most diversified real estate development and management companies has promoted its chief operating officer to CEO. Santa Monica resident Mike Drandell will now oversee a team of more than 600 employees of diverse and highly skilled professionals who have devoted their careers to acquiring, developing and managing premier real estate assets. Included in Goldrich Kest’s vast portfolio are 120 apartment buildings with 13,188 units, 5 marinas with 2,139 slips, 24 senior living facilities with 4,248 beds, and, scattered throughout the US, more than 9 million square feet of commercial, industrial and retail space.
“I’m proud and honored to accept my new position and look forward to utilizing my knowledge and experience to continue leading the company forward,” said Drandell. “Goldrich Kest has a tremendous reputation for owning quality real estate, providing housing to families and seniors, and generating significant growth for the future. Under my leadership, I hope to keep us on that path.”
A native Angeleno, Drandell earned his Bachelors of Science in accounting at California State University at Northridge. While pursuing his CPA certificate, he worked at what is now CliftonLarsonAllen LLP in Beverly Hills where he became the youngest manager in the firm’s history. He joined Goldrich Kest in 1995 as its Controller and since then has held the positions of VP/Controller, CFO and COO before accepting the CEO position for all Goldrich Kest-related companies including GK Management Co., Inc., Prestige Homes, Inc., Royale Management Co., LLC, Overland Casualty Co, Inc. and Active Mortgage Corp.
He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the California Society of Certified Public Accountants, as well as a past board member of the Los Angeles Business Council and past board member and past president of both the Affordable Housing Management Association and AHMA Foundation
Goldrich Kest can trace its origins back more than 60 years to two entrepreneurs, Jona Goldrich and Sol Kest, who parlayed their meager savings into an empire. Today, the second generation of the Goldrich and Kest families, referred to within the company as “G2,” continue to build upon the eponymous company’s ever-expanding portfolio of residential, commercial, industrial and retail projects.
The company is active in many community and nonprofit projects. In fact, dozens of its apartment buildings accommodate low-income families and Goldrich Kest offers free after-school and summer programs to keep its young residents engaged and eager to learn.
