Marlene Farrugia, the Independent MP within the Maltese Parliament, has confirmed that has plans to file a motion of no confidence against Prime Minister Joseph Muscat’s Chief of Staff Keith Schembri. Not long ago, Farrugia filed the same motion of no confidence against the then Energy Minister Konrad Mizzi (vote has been scheduled to be held later this week). It seems like the energetic MP has plans to ‘extend’ that chain motion.

Since the parasitic Panamanian data leak, prominent political figures of various countries across the globe were mentioned in the leaks, leading to indefinite investigation proceedings and timeless call-ups to emergency hearings to reach some sort of a ‘realistic’ verdict (of sorts). Amidst such proceedings, Officials among the Maltese government, namely Konrad Mizzi and Keith Schembri, were also accused of Panamanian fraudulent schematics. However, Prime Minister Muscat has taken a tremendous stance to protect and support his comrades amidst the onslaught of accusations and the Opposition’s various threats of political espionage shall not stand in his way to redeem his Cabinet’s innocent portfolio.

In the past couple of weeks, the Opposition has claimed that prior to various Panama mentions and the fact that Mizzi and Schembri are hiding sustainable information accounts for viable corruption on the highest level of government and corporate espionage; Dr. Busuttil is confident that the pair are guilty of insider trading and financial embezzlements outside Maltese jurisdiction and are lawfully subject to the court of law. But in defence of such accusations and outrageous remarks, Joseph Muscat defends both the Minister and his Chief of Staff; he sustains no intention to force Schembri to appear before a PANA Committee next month and slams all those media outlets trying to discredit his Office’s status on the basis of fabricated information and assumed knowledge.

Since the MP Farrugia has planned motions of no confidence in Mizzi and Schembri, it is only up to the Speaker of the House to decide as to whether the accused deserve viable action on the basis of ill-based developments. It remains clear to the public eye, amidst the Maltese developmental surge, that Muscat’s credibility shouldn’t be questioned and the choice of candidates he perceives for many reforms are to be respected rather than accused of something they haven’t committed.
